GENERAL INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS
DANCE ARTS DEPARTMENT COURSES
Note: dance classes meet F-credit or PE-credit requirements toward graduation.

- Beginning Dance (Dance 1-4)
- Intermediate Dance (Dance 3-8) | requires beginning dance pre-requisite OR teacher approval
- Dance Company (Dance Team & All Male) | audition required; www.mkhsdance.com
- Honors Dance Company (Dance Team & All Male) | audition required; www.mkhsdance.com
DANCE CLASS DRESS CODE
Students must arrive to class fully dressed in the appropriate dance uniform as described below (The regular MKHS physical education uniform is NOT allowed for this class). Dress code shall be followed at all times and is non-negotiable. The following items are acceptable for successful participation MKHS dance arts department classes. Students must wear ALL BLACK on days that we dance (dress):
Lower Body: Jazz pants, leggings/tights, spandex shorts, capri shorts, loose-fitting shorts (above the knee)
Upper Body: MKHS Dance Department Top, Leotard, Fitted Tank, Fitted T-shirt (no low cut)
Footwear: Split-sole jazz shoes, dance paws, half soles, ballet slippers,
No street shoes are ever to be worn in the dance studio. Baggy loose-fitting clothes and semi-formal apparel are not acceptable (sweatpants, sweaters, khakis, jeans, button-down shirts, collared shirts, etc). Clothing must not have any large logos, screen designs, lace/fringe, rhinestones, etc. In addition to abiding by the above uniform guidelines, students are also forbidden from wearing any bracelets, necklaces, watches, anklets, rings, and hats. For safety reasons, any earrings worn in class must be studs no larger than the size of a dime (hoops and dangle earrings not allowed... Leave them in PE locker). Hair must be tied or pulled back in a bun, ponytail, braid, or similar hairstyle. Any students who are partially or incorrectly dressed for class as described above are considered a “non-dress”, resulting in the loss of points and an “F” grade for the day. Students are NOT allowed to wear dance uniform outside of this class!

GOOGLE CLASSROOM
Students enrolled in dance classes and/or aerobics must submit homework assignments on Google Classroom. Please see your counselor or Mr. Arroyo if you need technical assistance logging into your Google Classroom account.

DANCE COMPANY AUDITIONS
The advanced dance education program at MKHS consists of our nationally ranked Dance Team & All Male Hip Hop. Students enrolled in Dance Company and/or Honors Dance Company can receive P.E. or Fine Art credit towards graduation. Auditions for these classes are open to students in Grades 8-11, and are held in April each year (for enrollment the following school year). CLICK HERE for try-out dates & information.
